ET:Copper, nickel strengthens on global cues
 
NEW DELHI: Copper and nickel prices firmed up by Rs 2 per kg in the local non-ferrous metals market today in line with a firming trend overseas amid increased demand.

Sentiment turned better as copper gained in global markets after US new-home construction rose at the fastest pace in almost four years and orders to withdraw the metal in Asia jumped, signalling improving demand.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.5 per cent to USD 7,678.50 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper mixed scrap and nickel (4x4) were up by Rs 2 each to Rs 396 and Rs 1,037-1,040 per kg, respectively.

The following are metal rates per kg: Zinc ingot 102-106, nickel plate (4x4) 1,037-1,040, gun metal scrap 226, bell metal scrap 228, copper mixed scrap 396, chadri deshi 285.

Lead ingot 128, lead imported 126, aluminium ingots 125, sheet cutting 127, aluminium wire scrap 132 and aluminium utensils scrap 126.
