ET:Gold in euros hits 2012 high ahead of ECB meeting
LONDON: Gold priced in euros touched its highest level this year on Thursday, ahead of a European Central Bank meeting at which investors were expecting policymakers to outline a plan to stem the spread of the region's debt crisis.
Euro-priced gold rose by 0.8 percent to 1,354.96 euros an ounce, its strongest level in 2012 and the highest since Sept. 12 last year, the day the price hit a record 1,373.92 euros.
A rally in the euro against the dollar pushed gold in the U.S. currency up 1 percent on the day to a six-month high of $1,710.90 an ounce.
