SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Natural-gas futures traded lower Thursday after a weekly government report showed a smaller-than-expected increase in supplies. Natural gas for October delivery NGV12 +0.50% declined less than 1 cent, or 0.1%, to $2.79 per million British thermal units. Prices were flat before the report, but turned higher briefly after the data release. The Energy Information Administration reported a rise of 28 billion cubic feet in supplies of natural gas in the week ended Aug. 31. Analysts had expected a rise around 36 billion cubic feet.
