RTTN: Dollar stays strong after US jobless claims

FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The US dollar held pretty steady near daily highs versus most competitors, except for the yen, after US data showed applications for jobless benefits fell by 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 382,000 in the latest week.

However, the decline in jobless claims missed expectations of a steeper decline to around 375,000 claims, while figures from two weeks ago were upwardly revised.

EUR/USD fell to 1.2934 and was last trading down 0.8% at 1.2940, having scored a 1-week low of 1.2930 earlier on the day. GBP/USD stayed below 1.6200, trading at the 1.6175 area where it records a 0.3% loss on the day.

Meanwhile, the greenback continued to weaken versus the yen and printed a fresh weekly low of 78.00 after the data. It was last down 0.3% at 78.12.
