SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Natural-gas futures held to gains Thursday after a weekly government report on supplies came in within expectations. Natural gas for October delivery added 5 cents, or 1.7%, to $2.81 per million British thermal units. It traded at the same level before the report. The Energy Information Administration reported an increase in inventories by 67 billion cubic feet for the week ended Sept. 14. Analysts polled by Platts had expected the report to show a rise between 64 bcf and 68 bcf for the week.
