MW: Treasury's Cohen to discuss Iran, Syria sanctions

WASHINGTON--A senior U.S. Treasury official is traveling to Europe this week to discuss sanctions against Iran and Syria, the Treasury Department said Monday.
Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen will travel to France, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom Oct. 1-5 for meetings with senior officials.
Mr. Cohen "will discuss efforts to further increase pressure on the Iranian government through sanctions and will emphasize the need for continued coordinated efforts to sanction the Syrian regime for its violent crackdown against the Syrian people," Treasury said.
Mr. Cohen also will discuss how the U.S. and other nations can work to prevent terrorist groups, such as al Qaeda, from using kidnapping for ransom as a means of raising funds.
