MW: U.S. stocks begin higher ahead of housing report

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks started modestly ahead on Wednesday after getting beaten up the prior session, with earnings from Boeing Co. BA +1.61% and Facebook Inc. FB +22.21% helping lift sentiment ahead of a report on home sales. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.18% climbed 33.90 points, or 0.3%, to 13,136.43. The S&P 500 index SPX +0.32% gained 5.59 points, or 0.4%, to 1,418.70. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.62% added 18.52 points, or 0.6%, to 3,008.98.
