NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Procter & Gamble PG +3.67% rose 3.4% to lead gains among the 30 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.46% on Thursday. The consumer products commpany's adjusted first-quarter earnings of $1.09 a share beat the average analyst estimate of 96 cents a share, according to data compiled by FactSet. On a conference call with analysts, CFO Jon Moeller said conversations with hedge fund manager and P&G shareholder William Ackman have been "good" and that the company shares objectives with him, according to a report.
