FRX: EUR/USD little changed as Greek aid hopes lend support

Forexpros - The euro was little changed against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday, as optimism that an agreement on a delayed bailout payment for Greece is close underpinned the single currency.

EUR/USD pulled back from 1.2737, the pair’s lowest since Friday, to hit 1.2824 during U.S. morning trade, ticking up 0.06%.

The pair was likely to find support at 1.2699, the low of November 14 and resistance at 1.2828, Tuesday’s high.

The euro fell to session lows against the greenback earlier after talks between euro zone finance ministers and the International Monetary Fund concluded on Tuesday without reaching a deal on unlocking Greece’s bailout package, amid disagreements on how best to reduce the country’s debt to sustainable levels.

The head of the eurogroup of finance ministers Jean-Claude Juncker said a deal was close, but he didn’t know when Athens would receive its next aid installment. The talks are set to continue next Monday.

The pair showed little reaction after the U.S. Department of Labor said the number of individuals filing for initial jobless benefits last week declined to a seasonally adjusted 410,000, in line with expectations.

Jobless claims for the preceding week were revised up to 451,000 from a previously reported 439,000.

Trade looked likely to thin out ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

The euro was steady against the pound, with EUR/GBP dipping 0.01% to 0.8046, but was higher against the broadly weaker yen, with EUR/JPY up 0.90% to 105.63.

The yen remained under heavy selling pressure amid expectations that elections on December 16 will result in growing political pressure on the Bank of Japan to implement more aggressive monetary easing measures.
