MW: Treasury yields steady as stocks rally

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Treasury yields traded little changed on Friday, while U.S. stocks posted strong gains in an abbreviated trading session following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Yields on 10-year notes 10_YEAR +0.42% were unchanged at 1.690%.
Yields move inversely to prices. A basis point is one one-hundredth of a percentage point.

Yields on 30-year bonds 30_YEAR +0.18% were flat at 2.830% and those on 5-year notes 5_YEAR +0.29% were also flat at 0.684%.

The bond market will close at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday, while the stock market will close at 1 p.m.

U.S. stocks rose on Friday, buoyed by an upbeat German business-sentiment survey and signs that consumers were taking advantage of Black Friday sales. Read: Stocks rise on positive global data.

The financial markets were closed on Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Treasury prices fell on Wednesday following a relatively weak auction and generally positive economic data. Read: Treasurys down after TIPS auction.
