NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks began lower on Monday as U.S. lawmakers readied to take up the so-called fiscal cliff and as euro-zone finance ministers met on further aid for Greece. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.67% lost 81.40 points, or 0.6%, to 12,928.28. The S&P 500 index SPX -0.59% retreated 8.15 points, or 0.6%, to 1,401.00. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.32% fell 9.68 points, or 0.3%, to 2,957.17.
