WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The final reading for consumer sentiment in December is expected to tick up to 75 from a preliminary monthly reading of 74.5, according to analysts polled by MarketWatch. The preliminary reading took a hefty fall from a final reading of 82.7 in November, with consumers concerned about the fiscal cliff. Analysts expect that the lack of a fiscal-cliff compromise has held down consumer sentiment throughout December. However, consumers may be cheered by lower gas prices and higher stock prices this month. The University of Michigan-Thomson Reuters will release the existing-home sales data at 9:55 a.m.
