ET:Nickel futures up on overseas cues, spot demand
NEW DELHI: Nickel prices rose marginally by 0.09 per cent to Rs 955 per kg in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, tracking a firm trend in base metals overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, Nickel prices for delivery in January rose by 90 paise, or 0.09 per cent to Rs 955 per kg in business turnover of 154 lots.
Similarly, the metal prices for delivery in December traded higher by 50 paise, or 0.05 per cent, to Rs 947.30 per kg in 554 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions created by speculators supported by a firming trend overseas after data showed the US labour market and housing strengthened, and as lawmakers in the biggest user of the metal after China sought to resolve a budget impasse, supported the rise in Nickel futures here.
Further, rising demand at spot markets largely from alloy-makers, also influenced prices, they said.
