MW: S&P 500 tops 1,500 for the first time since 2007

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The S&P 500 index rose above the 1,500 level for the first time since December 2007 on Thursday after data boosted optimism about the U.S. economy. The S&P 500 SPX +0.31% rose as high as 1,501.34 a few minutes after 10 a.m. Eastern time. The index was lately up 4.70 points, or 0.3%, to 1,499.40, with consumer discretionary the top gainer and technology the only decliner among its 10 major industry groups.
