ET:Copper futures up on spot demand

NEW DELHI: Copper futures prices rose by 0.11 per cent to Rs 447.40 per kg today as speculators enlarged positions, largely supported by firming demand at domestic market.

However, a weak trend in base metals at the London Metal Exchange limited the gains.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April was up by 50 paise, or 0.11 per cent to Rs 447.40 per kg in a turnover of 951 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in February traded higher by 45 paise, or 0.10 per cent, to Rs 442.55 per kg, with a business turnover of 13,008 lots.

Marketmen said a firming trend in the spot markets on domestic demand, helped copper futures to trade higher but weakness in base metals at the London Metal Exchange limited the fall.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months fell 0.2 per cent to USD 8,207.50 per tonne at the London Metal Exchange.
