ET:Copper prices rise 0.20 pc on strong global cues

NEW DELHI: Taking positive cues from the overseas markets and a pick-up in spot demand, copper futures prices today rose by 0.20 per cent to Rs 430.10 per kg.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April rose by 85 paise, or 0.20 per cent, to Rs 430.10 per kg, with a turnover of 1,635 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in February was up by 65 paise, or 0.15 per cent, at Rs 423.10 per kg, with a trade volume of 5,584 lots.

Globally, copper for three-month delivery up by 0.6 per cent to USD 7,880 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange (LME), while at Shanghai Futures Exchange rose 0.30 per cent to 57,320 yuan (USD 9,198) per tonne.

Market analysts attributed the rise in copper in futures trade to a firming trend on the LME amid speculation that demand in China, the largest user, will increase in March.
