Mumbai: The Indian rupee on Thursday fell past the 54-mark against the US dollar after rising earlier in the day, immediately after the Union Budget speech by finance minister P. Chidambaram.
At 12.50pm, the rupee fell to 54.10, down 0.4% from its previous close of 53.88 against the dollar. In morning trade, the rupee had risen to 53.60.
So far this year, the rupee has risen 1.71% against the dollar.
The yield on India’s 10-year benchmark bonds is trading 0.84% higher at 7.87%, compared with its previous close of 7.8%.
