The rupee slipped 60 paise against the dollar to a low of 54.47 after the domestic equity market was disappointed post the announcement of the Union Budget.
After opening stronger at 53.63 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the rupee moved about 88 paise from a high of 53.60 to 54.48 per dollar during the day.
On Wednesday, the Indian currency had closed 21 paise stronger at 53.87 after the Government announced the turnaround of the economy in FY14 with higher growth and lower fiscal deficit targets in the pre-Budget Economic Survey.
