The rupee jumped to a one-week high of 54.41 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today on a stronger euro and domestic equity market.
After opening at 54.48 per dollar, it declined to a low of 54.56 in the early trade. However, at 10.50 a.m., the rupee recovered and was trading at 54.42 to the dollar.
The Indian unit had closed higher at 54.56 on Thursday.
The euro rallied as the as European Central Bank President gave no indication of a further cut in interest rates in the euro zone.
Expected capital inflows from a Government-owned power company’s share sale also boosted the rupee sentiment.
Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE-benchmark Sensex rose 147 points or 0.75 per cent to 19,560 in the early market hours.
