NEW DELHI: Copper futures prices today fell 0.16 per cent to Rs 407.90 per kg, as speculators trimmed their positions amid a weak trend in the global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April declined by 65 paise, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 407.90 per kg in business turnover of 1,728 lots.

The metal for delivery in June fell by 40 paise, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 414.35 per kg in a business volume of 153 lots.

Analysts said weakening trend in the global markets as record unemployment in Europe added to concern that demand will weaken amid signs of slowing growth in China and rising stockpiles of the metal, weighed on the copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper's inventories tracked by the London Metal Exchange (LME) climbed 0.2 per cent to 571,125 tonnes.

Globally, copper for delivery in three-months traded 1 per cent lower at $ 7,465 per tonne at the LME.
