ENM: Gold, silver hit fresh lows on intense selling, global cues

MUMBAI: Gold prices fell to their eight-month low at the domestic bullion market today on intense selling from stockists and investors amidst subdued local demand driven by weak global trend.

Silver also extended its fall to 15-month low to revisit Rs 52,000 per kg level owing to heavy speculative selling amid poor industrial demand.

Standard Gold of 99.5 per cent purity shed by Rs 340 per 10 gm to end at Rs 29,195 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 29,535.

Pure gold of 99.9 per cent purity also dropped by a similar margin to finish at Rs 29,335 per 10 gm from Rs 29,675.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) tumbled by Rs 1,290 to end at Rs 52,110 per kg from Rs 53,400 previously.

In overseas, gold tanked to nearly four week lows on strong dollar amidst rally in US equities attracting investors away from the metal.

Gold for June delivery dipped USD 25 to USD 1,575.90 an ounce at the Comex division of the NYMEX late yesterday.

Silver for the May contract also shed 70 cents to USD 27.25 an ounce.
