MW:Europe stocks decline after U.S. jobless claims

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets moved lower in afternoon action on Thursday, after data showed the number of people in the U.S. who filed for new unemployment benefits rose to a four-month high last week. The Labor Department said initial jobless claims jumped 28,000 to 385,000. The Stoxx Europe 600 index XX:SXXP -0.03% lost 0.1% to 294.53. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 index UK:UKX -0.36% fell 0.5% to 6,388.85. Germany's DAX 30 index DX:DAX +0.50% rose 0.5% to 7,914.04, while France's CAC 40 index FR:PX1 +0.81% added 0.8% to 3,783.70.
