The rupee opened the session at 55.84 per dollar on Thursday versus its previous close of 55.46/47.
At 11.51am, the rupee was trading at 55.97, down 0.92%. India’s equity benchmark Sensex was down 1.64% to 19,732.88 points. Since January, the rupee has fallen 1.65%.
