NEW DELHI: Select base metals, copper and nickel showed weakness with prices falling up to Rs 5 per kg on the local non-ferrous metals market today, largely in line with a weakening trend overseas on demand concern.
Traders said sentiment remained weak after copper and other base metals weakened on concern that slowing economic growth in China may curb demand in the world's biggest consumer of industrial metals.
Meanwhile, copper fell 1.1 per cent to USD 7220 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange, while metal for delivery in September fell 1 per cent to 52,900 yuan (USD 8,491) a tonne on the Shanghai Futures Exchange.
In the national capital, copper mixed scrap fell by Rs 4 to Rs 410 per kg, while nickel (4x4) down by Rs 5 to Rs 1,052-1,055 per kg.
The following were today's metal rates per kg: Zinc ingot 113-119, nickel plate (4x4) 1,052-1,055 gun metal scrap 227, bell metal scrap 229, copper mixed scrap 410, chadri deshi 285.
Lead ingot 136, lead imported 134, aluminium ingots 142, sheet cutting 143, aluminium wire scrap 146 and aluminium utensils scrap 142.
