NEW DELHI: Copper prices moved up by 0.12 per cent to Rs 420.25 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions on firm global cues.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in August traded higher by 50 paise, or 0.12 per cent, to Rs 420.25 per kg in business turnover of 431 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in June contracts edged up by 45 paise, or 0.11 per cent, to Rs 415 per kg in 6,116 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to a firm global trend amid concern that miners will refuse to resume work at Freeport-McMoran Copper and Gold Inc' Grasberg mine in Indonesia after an accident halted production.
Meanwhile, copper climbed 0.4 per cent to $ 7,349.25 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
