Eurozone's composite PMI rose to 51.7 in August from 50.5 in July. Economists had forecast the index to rise to 50.9 in August.
The euro spiked higher against its major counterparts after the report. As of 4:02 am ET, the European shared currency was trading at 1.3361 against the dollar, 131.30 against the yen, 0.8564 against the pound and 1.2342 against the Swiss franc.
