ZI:Sensex gains over 400 pts as rupee recovers up to 66.82 Vs dollar
Mumbai: The S&P BSE benchmark Sensex ended over 400 points on the back of short-covering amid sharp recovery in rupee against the dollar.
Shares of Oil, FMCG, metals, capital goods and Auto firmed up on good buying enquiries.
The Sensex closed higher at 401.04, up 404.89 points or 2.25 percent compared to yesterday. Similarly, the NSE 50-share Nifty also moved up by 124 points to 5,409. The rupee today hovered in a range of of 67.88 to 66.82 against dollar. Yesterday, it had hit an intra-day low of 68.85 Vs dollar.
Major gainers in BSE were Sesa Goa (13.54 percent), HDFC (6.30 percent), Hindalco (4.65 percent), RIL (4.22 percent) and Bharti Airtel (3.89 percent).
