MW: 30-year-mortgage rate rises to 4.29%

By Ruth Mantell
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The average rate for the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 4.29% in the week that ended Nov. 27 from 4.22% in the prior week, according to a Wednesday report from federally controlled mortgage buyer Freddie Mac FMCC -1.60% . "Fixed mortgage rates retraced some of their decline of the prior week as housing data portrayed mixed signals," said Frank Nothaft, Freddie's chief economist. A year ago, the 30-year rate was at 3.32%. The average rate for the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 3.30% in the latest week from 3.27% in the prior week. Meanwhile, the rate for a 5-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgage ticked down to 2.94% from 2.95%. The rate for a 1-year Treasury-indexed ARM declined to 2.60% from 2.61%.
