MW: U.S. stocks open near flatline after budget deal

By Victor Reklaitis
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks showed little change on Wednesday as investors digested the budget deal announced late Tuesday, which signaled less government dysfunction but also could help spur the Federal Reserve to taper its stimulus measures next week. The S&P 500 SPX -0.02% was last roughly unchanged at 1,803, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA +0.09% edged up 4 points to 15,977. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.04% inched up 1 point to 4,062. Wednesday was expected to provide little in terms of economic data, so investors focused on the U.S. budget deal and upcoming Fed meeting.
