MC:Ringgit lower against US dollar amid weaker demand

KUALA LUMPUR - The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar in the early trading Monday on weaker demand as investors' appetite shift towards the greenback.

At 9.07 am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2885/2915 to a US dollar from Friday's close at 3.2850/2880.

A dealer said the US dollar inched up following an upbeat US economy outlook by outgoing Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Meanwhile, the local note opened mostly higher against other major currencies.

The local unit was traded slightly higher against the Singapore dollar to 2.5926/5970 from 2.5927/5961 last week and strengthened against the British pound to 5.3968/4030 from 5.4009/4071 on Friday.

The ringgit rose against the euro to 4.4714/4758 from last week's 4.4801/4848 close but weakened against the yen to 3.1466/1498 from 3.1459/1503 on Friday. - BERNAMA
