TM:Ringgit closes higher against US dollar in late trading
KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today in tandem with regional currencies on rising risk appetite, dealers said.
At 5 pm, the local unit was traded at 3.2900/2930 against the greenback from yesterday's close at 3.2980/3010.
A dealer said the ringgit continued to take the cue from the positive regional sentiments which were driven by better US economic data.
Recent US economic data showed February durable goods orders rose 2.2 per cent month-on-month.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit was also traded higher.
The local note appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.6002/6028 from
2.6030/6056 Wednesday and rose against the yen to 3.2226/2262 from 3.2239/2271 yesterday.
The domestic currency improved against the euro to 4.5277/5325 from 4.5499/5554 Wednesday and was traded firmer against the British pound to 5.4482/4545 from yesterday’s 5.4526/4589 close. – Bernama
