LM:Rupee closes 15 paise weaker against dollar at 60.32
Mumbai: The Indian rupee weakened against the dollar for the first time in five days on Thursday.
The Indian currency closed at 60.3175 per dollar, down 0.25% from its previous close of 60.165.
The partially convertible currency opened at 60.245 a dollar and touched a high and a low of 60.1237 and 60.355 per dollar, respectively.
Since January this year, the rupee has gained 2.46%, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have bought equities worth $3.23 billion.
The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 80.129, up 0.13% from the previous close of 80.032.
India’s benchmark equity index Sensex ended at 22,214.37 points, up 0.54%, or 119.07 points, from the previous close.
Yields on the 10-year benchmark bond ended at 8.825% against its previous close of 8.783%.
The inter-bank call money rate ended at 7.05%, up from its previous close of 7.1%.
