Prices of copper and lead fell by Rs 2 per kg at the local non-ferrous base metals market today on sluggish demand from consuming industries amid weak global trend.
Traders said sentiment turned bearish after copper fell in global markets as mines in Chile, the world's biggest producer, were returning to normal operations after the government ordered an evacuation following an earthquake and tsunami.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months retreated 0.6 per cent to USD 6,632 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
In the national capital, copper mixed scrap shed Rs 2 to Rs 440, while lead ingot and lead imported were also traded lower by the same margin to Rs 128 and Rs 126 per kg, respectively.
