TM:Ringgit closes higher against US dollar on positive external sentiments

KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today on positive external sentiments, dealers said.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.2645/2665 against the greenback, up from the 3.2655/2685 close yesterday.

A dealer said China’s manufacturing report showed the index was 48.3 in April, slightly higher from a final reading of 48.0 in March. Still, it was below the 50 dividing line between expansion and contraction.

The dealer said the ringgit was higher against a basket of major currencies. It appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5971/5005 from 2.5997/5038 yesterday but dipped against the euro to 4.5180/4221 from 4.5087/4135.

Against the British pound, it was higher to 5.4876/4926 from 5.4929/4002 yesterday, and strengthened against the yen to 3.1842/1865 from 3.1846/1878. — Bernama
