KUALA LUMPUR : The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar today on positive external sentiments, dealers said. At 5pm, the local note was quoted at 3.2645/2665 against the greenback from Tuesday's 3.2655/2685 close.
A dealer said China's manufacturing report showed the index was 48.3 in April, slightly higher from a final reading of 48.0 in March.
However, it was below 50, which is the dividing line between expansion and contraction.
The dealer said the local note was higher against a basket of major currencies.
The ringgit appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5971/5005 from 2.5997/5038 yesterday but dipped against the euro to 4.5180/4221 from 4.5087/4135 Tuesday.
Against the British pound, the domestic currency was higher to 5.4876/4926 from 5.4929/4002 yesterday and strengthened against the yen to 3.1842/1865 from 3.1846/1878 Tuesday. – Bernama
