ET:Nickel jumps almost 6 per cent to 2-year peak on supply worries
LONDON: Nickel prices jumped by almost 6 per cent to their highest level in over two years on Thursday as investors bought on persistent worries about shortages from major producers Indonesia and Russia.
Three-month nickel on the London Metal Exchange rose 5.8 per cent to a high of $19,724 per tonne, its strongest since March 2012.
Top producer Indonesia imposed a ban on unprocessed ore exports in January and there has been concern that supply from No. 2 producer Russia could also be threatened due to potential sanctions linked to the crisis in Ukraine.
