NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - The U.S. stock market opened lower on Tuesday as investors digested weaker-than-expected housing data. Home prices rose in April, but the pace of growth was the slowest in more than a year, according to S&P/Case-Shiller. Investors await new-home sales figures due at 10 a.m. Eastern. The S&P 500 SPX -0.12% began trading 2.6 points, or 0.1%, lower at 1,960.14. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.12% opened 20 points lower at 16,917.08. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.10% began the day up 2 points at 4,370.82.
