INV: Canada Stocks Fall, Extending Weekly Retreat After Jobs Report
 
Canadian stocks fell a second day, capping the first weekly decline in a month, after a report showed the nation unexpectedly lost jobs led by a record loss in private-sector employment.

Royal Bank of Canada (RY) and Bank of Montreal slipped more than 0.4 percent to pace declines among financial stocks. Talisman Energy Inc. dropped 1.2 percent as crude prices posted a weekly drop on weaker-than-estimated U.S. jobs growth.

The Standard & Poor’s/TSX Composite Index (SPTSX) fell 6.87 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 15,569.92 at 4 p.m. in Toronto. The gauge erased an earlier decline of 0.3 percent before retreating in the final minutes of trading. It finished Sept. 3 at a record 15,657.63.

The Canadian equities benchmark fell 0.4 percent this week, snapping three weeks of gains. Trading volume in the S&P/TSX was in line with the 30-day average.

Canadian employment fell by 11,000 and the jobless rate was unchanged at 7.0 percent, Statistics Canada said today in Ottawa. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg News projected a 10,000 job increase and unchanged employment, according to median forecasts. The private sector lost a record 111,800 jobs, the data showed.

Its latest closing price was up +4.18% from the average-price of 200 days while it maintained a distance from the SMA 50 at -8.18 % and -2.35% compared with the SMA 20. Precision Drilling Corporation provides energy services primarily to the North American oil and gas industry. It operates in two segments, Contract Drilling Services, and Completion and Production Services.

Penn West Petroleum Ltd (USA) (NYSE:PWE) an exploration and production company, acquires, explores, develops, exploits, and holds interests in petroleum and natural gas properties and related assets in western Canada. The stock’s latest price traded at +8.60% up 52 week lows after the closing bell and was -33.98% behind its 52 week high. Its latest closing price was -11.54% below the SMA200 while the distance from the SMA 50 and SMA 20 was -10.84 % and +0.41% respectively.

Potash Corp./Saskatchewan (USA) (NYSE:POT) is trading +20.54% higher than the 52 week low price and -9.97% behind the 52 week high. The stock’s latest closing price was +0.89% up from the average-price of 200 days while it kept its distance from the SMA50 at -3.89 % and -1.70% compared with the SMA 20. Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc., together with its subsidiaries, produces and sells fertilizers and related industrial and feed products worldwide.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX) develops, manufactures, and markets pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter (OTC) products, and medical devices in the areas of eye health, dermatology, and neurology therapeutic classes worldwide. The Company so far this year has moved up +1.94% and its monthly performance stands at +8.78%. The stock was up +21.37% from its 52 week low and was -21.83% below the 52 week high. Its latest closing price was down -4.64% from the average-price of 200 days while it kept its distance from the SMA50 at +0.80% and +5.39% compared with the SMA 20.
