MD: Canadian dollar, oil and gold down ahead of open at Toronto Stock Exchange
 
TORONTO – The Canadian dollar, oil and gold were down ahead of the open at the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The loonie traded at 79.15 cents US, down 0.22 of a U.S. cent from Friday’s close.

On the commodity markets, the May crude contract was down 88 cents at US47.99 a barrel and April bullion was down $14.70 at US$1,185.4 an ounce.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 86 points at 17,712, the Nasdaq futures were ahead 27 points at 4,352.80, and the S&P 500 futures advanced 8.80 points to 2,061.40.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed Friday at 14,812.42, after falling 57.38 points.

In corporate news, it will be the first day of trading for Air Canada (TSX:AC) since one of its passenger jets came down hard and sustained extensive damage while landing in Halifax. All 138 passengers and crew aboard the plane survived the crash landing but about two dozen were injured.
