Three gunmen left with nothing after attempting to rob a Dollar General on Friday.
It was just before 10 p.m. when three men entered the store on 99 Martin Luther King Dr. with masks on their faces, guns drawn and yelling “don’t move, don’t move!” to the cashier, according to an incident report from the Newnan Police Department.
While one suspect pointed a gun at the cashier, another man then jumped behind the counter and punched her in the side of her head. The cashier fell to the floor as the suspects demanded she open the register and give them the cash, according to the police report.
The cashier begged the suspects not to hurt her, and told them that she was unable to open the register unless a purchase transaction was completed. The suspects then ran out of the store toward the area of Fairmount, according to police. The cashier told police that all three suspects were armed.
After watching video footage of the incident, the cashier told police that one of the suspects looked familiar – stating that he looked like one of the store’s regular customers who had been in the store earlier that day, according to the report.
The cashier told police that the customer had approached her and asked if she was working by herself. She told police that she did not know the man’s name but found it strange that he would ask her such a question and then have the store get robbed only a few hours later.
No suspects have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing, according to Deputy Police Chief Rodney Riggs.
