MW: Europe's auto-sector growth to slow: Daimler CEO
BRUSSELS-- Daimler AG Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche has warned that Europe's auto sector is set for significantly slower growth this year given sluggish economic activity in the region and concerns about security.
Speaking in his capacity as the head of the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, Mr. Zetsche said demand for cars and light trucks is unlikely to be as robust as it was in 2015 when registrations of new passenger cars rose 9.3% in the European Union from the previous year.
The association, known by its French acronym ACEA, expects the number of new car registrations to grow some 2% this year to around 14 million.
"For 2016 we anticipate a much more modest sales increase for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles," said Mr. Zetsche.
"Growth in Europe is threatened by the security situation, among other reasons," he said.
