The base metal index at the MCX inched up at 2,200.68 points contributed by firm trading in copper, aluminum but the gain capped by the Nickel futures which have recorded more than 2% drop in the prices.
At the MCX, Nickel January contract slumped by 2.56% at Rs 625 per kg (4.17 p.m., Wednesday). It opened at Rs 648.90 as against its previous close of Rs 641.40 per kg.
Nickel February contract declined by 2.38% at Rs 636 per kg as against its earlier close of Rs 651.50. It opened at Rs 657 in the morning trade and Nickel March contract dropped by 2.89% at Rs 645 as against its previous close of Rs 664.20 per kg.
