DJ PRECIOUS METALS: NY Gold Seen Up $1, Silver Down 20 Cents
February gold futures are expected to open floor
trading in New York around $1 an ounce higher Thursday, based on electronic
activity ahead of the pit session at the Comex division of the New York
Mercantile Exchange. March silver is expected to be down about 20 cents an
ounce.
At 7:58 a.m. EST, spot gold was trading up 13 cents at $842.95. In overnight
activity, precious metals in Europe were mostly steady.
U.S. economic reports on Thursday include Jan. 3 jobless claims at 8:30 a.m.
EST (1330 GMT), with weekly jobless claims expected up 63,000 at 555,000.
Comex gold warehouse stocks were down 1,001 ounces at 8,542,969 ounces
Wednesday, while silver stocks were up 696,284 ounces at 127,465,681 ounces.
