The benchmark index of Sensex and Nifty tumbled over 4% each on heavy selling pressure seen across board due to weak cues. Banking, realty, IT and metal stocks were under pressure.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index dropped 2.39% and 2.34% respectively.
Among the sectoral indices, BSE Bankex tumbled 6.22%, Realty and IT plunged over 5%, Metal dropped 4.42%.
Indian stock market belled the day on a negative note after a rise of 3.30% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a loss of 272.41 points, at 9,098.08 on Thursday.
In the previous day session, the Sensex closed with a gain of 299.13 points, or 3.30%, while the NSE Nifty climbed by 90.35 points, or 3.29%.
