The 30-share BSE index ended down 3.53 percent at 8,779.17
points and the 50-share NSE index ended down 3.23 percent at
2,706.15 points, as investors cut positions ahead of key
earnings and on rising risk aversion among foreigners.

GOVERNMENT BONDS -------------------------------
The 2018 bond yield ended at 5.89 percent, from the
previous close of 5.68 percent, on fading rate cut expectations
after a media report quoted a government official as saying he
does not expect the central bank to take monetary steps at its
Jan. 27 policy review, sparking expectation policy rates may be
kept on hold.
RUPEE --------------
The rupee closed at 49.11/13 per dollar, from the previous
close of 49.20/22, as some exporters sold dollars to take
advantage of the local unit's weakness earlier in the day.
INTEREST RATE SWAPS INROIS
----------------------------
The benchmark five-year interest rate swap ended at 4.83/90
percent, little changed from its previous close of 4.88/95
percent.
CALL MONEY --------------------
Call money rate ended mostly flat at 4.20/4.25 percent as
lenders held on to cash amid high credit risk, leaving the
system with adequate funds to meet demand from some banks for
their reserve requirements.

The February contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of
India at 13,545 rupees, up 52 rupees from the previous close.
