SIFY: Sensex down 43 pts; M&M declines sharply
 
The Sensex, which declined sharply after a weak start and a subsequent recovery, continues to languish in the red in mid morning trade as selling continues in several blue chip stocks.

At 8771.14, the Sensex is down with a loss of 42.70 points or 0.48. Earlier, after touching a high of 8858.84, the barometer had slipped to a low of 8719.01. The Nifty is has posted a loss of 12.40 points or 0.46% at 2701.40.

Stock tips for investors

Mahindra & Mahindra has lost 4.8% at Rs 273.70. Jaiprakash Associates has lost over 4%. Tata Power, Wipro, Grasim Industries, BHEL and Infosys Technologies are down by 2% - 3%. Larsen & Toubro, Sun Pharmaceuticals, ACC, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Sterlite Industries, Hindustan Unilever and Tata Consultancy Services have also posted sharp losses.

Stockometer

Reliance Industries is up with a sharp gain of 1.85%. Reliance Infrastructure, Tata Motors, Reliance Communications and ONGC are also up in the positive territory with notable gains. DLF, HDFC, ITC and ICICI Bank are up marginally over their previous closing levels. Cipla (up 8.1% at Rs 186.85) trades firm on strong quarterly results. Idea Cellular is up by over 3% at Rs 43.45.

Jindal Steel, MMTC, United Breweries, Financial Technologies, Jain Irrigation Systems, Alstom Projects, Rolta India, Hindustan Construction Company, Glenmark Pharma, HDIL, Divi's Laboratories, Aban Offshore, Bajaj Financial Services, Shriram Transport, United Spirits, Voltas and GMR Infrastructure have posted sharp losses.
