European shares edged higher in a volatile session on Tuesday, with Vodafone Group shares up 6.9% as investors welcomed quarterly revenue numbers and guidance from the wireless telecoms giant. Other telecoms were also higher, with the gains offsetting losses from oil producers such as BP , down 2.4%. Overall, the U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.3% to 4,091.60, the German DAX 30 index climbed 0.4% to 4,289.80 and the French CAC-40 index rose 0.3% to 2,937.28.
