MY: Sensex opens positive amid mixed global cues
 
Equities opened on a positive note today. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 39.71 points, at 9,241.56. Metal stocks rose, while realty and auto declined. Inflation data is scheduled later Thursday.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 0.10% and 0.09% respectively.

Asian stocks were trading mixed early today. Decreased earnings forecasts in Japan and share sales in Australia fueled concerns that the global recession is intensifying.

Indian stock market opened the day on a positive terrain after a rise of 0.57% on the previous working day. In the previous day session, the Sensex ended with a gain of 52.55 points, or 0.57%, while the NSE Nifty climbed by 19.15 points, or 0.69%.

Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading up 43.57 points, or 0.47%, at 9,245.42, after touching a high of 9,245.42 and a low of 9,241.56. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading higher by 0.35 points, or 0.01%, at 2,803.40, after hitting a high of 2,816.80 and a low of 2,800.00. (10.04 a.m.)

Overall market breadth is positive. Out of the total 577 stocks traded at BSE, 330 advanced, 225 declined while 22 remained unchanged.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (1.87%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.66%), Hindalco Industries (1.35%), ICICI Bank (0.87%), Larsen & Toubro (0.82%), and Reliance Energy (0.68%).

On the other hand, Tata Motors (4.66%), DLF (2.33%), Hindustan Unilever (1.03%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.91%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.83%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.80%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
