Indian equities slipped further while selling pressure continued to be witnessed in realty stocks.
While Realty shed over 5%, Bankex, Metal and Consumer Durables lost over 4%.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap were also trading in negative down by 2.49% and 2.22% respectively.
Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading down 260.29 points, or 2.80%, at 9,045.16, after touching a high of 9,213.40 and a low of 9,022.67. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading lower by 72.55 points, or 2.55%, at 2,775.95, after hitting a high of 2,854.65 and a low of 2,763.35. (01.59 p.m.)
The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a loss of 92.05 points, at 9,213.40. In the previous day session, the Sensex closed with a loss of 329.29 points, or 3.42%, while the NSE Nifty declined by 99.85 points, or 3.39%.
Overall market breadth was negative. Out of the total 2,320 shares traded at BSE, 530 advanced, 1,688 declined while 102 remained unchanged.
ITC which was up by 0.39% was the only major gainer in the 30-share index .
On the other hand, ICICI Bank (5.89%),Tata Steel (5.76%), DLF (5.58%), Hindalco Industries (4.85%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (4.75%), the major losers in the Sensex.
