The rupee opened weaker on Thursday as higher oil prices spurred demand for dollars from importers, while mixed Asian shares offered little comfort.
* Oil hovered above $42 a barrel in Asian trade, holding on to gains of more than 6 percent on Wednesday after U.S. government data showed a larger-than-expected drop in gasoline stocks.
* At 9:03 a.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 50.06/07, weaker than Wednesday's close of 49.96/97.
